Helen, featuring Ranger!
Helen and I attended Roanoke College together and were in a few biology classes (it’s a little funny to me that we were both bio majors but now both work in communications). Helen is located in Connecticut and has her own blog dedicated to style, products, care and more. For all you dog parents out there she also just got an adorable puppy (Ranger) and gives reviews on dog items, too.
Helen has an incredibly classic style. Many of her outfits are timeless, something that isn’t so easy to accomplish, that I appreciate. She’s very tasteful and offers both investment items and cost-friendly items to add to your closet.

This is what the full chambray jumpsuit looks like (seen above, I styled the jumpsuit as pants by layering a sweater over it).
What’s your favorite color to wear?
H: I try to always gravitate towards neutrals, and while that might not always work (just look at my Instagram feed, oops!) it’s what makes the most sense. Styling and restyling/mixing and matching neutrals is way easier than re-working the same pair of red pants into your wardrobe seven different ways. Am I right?! With that being said I always hold a special place in my heart for navy, pink, and white (in that order!). Oh! I also love to joke that my favorite color is gingham. I obviously realize it isn’t a color, but it pops up in my wardrobe quite often and it goes with everything!
What/Who is your inspiration for your style or looks?
Helen: Easy! My mom is my main style inspiration, I mean, my blog is called Style Inherited (because I inherited my style from my mom)! I’d describe my mom’s style as classic and effortless, but she’s also always ahead of trends! I can’t tell you how many times she showed me piece of clothing, an accessory, or a look and says “hey, this is cool and different, right?!” I usually roll my eyes and think, ummm who would wear that? Without fail a few months later it’s the latest and greatest trend and you’re seeing it everywhere! No joke!
How did you learn to style your looks/ put together different pieces for a unique outfit?
H: My mom definitely has taught me almost everything I know. I used to ignore her advice, but now I’m a bit better about just taking it as it comes. I mean, it’s really good advice and I use it all the time on my blog! One thing that comes to mind specifically is dressing in layers now that the weather is getting colder. Learned it from my mom! I like to think of myself as the queen of layers and I especially love sharing with my blog readers how you can incorporate lots of layers into your outfits, stay nice and warm, and still look cute!
As for putting together unique looks, that’s a tough one. Especially with Instagram, I feel like it’s so easy to just copy looks even accidentally because inspiration is everywhere. I try to dive deep into my closet to find pieces I either haven’t worn in a while or wouldn’t usually pair together. It’s like an experiment back in science class, lots of trial and error. This jumpsuit look, where I turned a chambray jumpsuit into pants by stying a cropped sweater over it, was probably one of my favorite looks. (Which is why I used this picture on my blogger business cards!). I completely transformed the jumpsuit! When I was shooting this look for the blog there were a few women who walked up and complimented me on my chambray pants/ my outfit in general. That’s when I knew I came up with a unique look!
How do you think style/ fashion impacts our daily life?
H: My mom always tells me, "if you look good, you feel good, you do good.” She’d always say this to me especially on days I had big tests in school and those days I’d spend extra time picking out my outfit and I’d even put perfume on (I never wear perfume!). It might seem silly, but I completely believe it. Well, I not only believe it, I live it! I no longer have to take tests (thank goodness!), but when I was interviewing for jobs right out of college I spent so much time finding the perfect interview outfits because if I didn’t look and feel like my best self then I wouldn’t preform to my best ability. You know what? I rocked those interview outfits and got lots of job offers! At Style Inherited I try to remind my readers that sometimes all it takes to conquer the world is the right outfit.

What is your favorite thing about fashion/ style?
H: Ah! Tough question! Believe it or not I used to only wear sweatpants and sweatshirts all throughout high school. Even when I got my first boyfriend senior year of high school I still didn’t give up my whole oversized sweatsuit look. Cringe! I can’t believe I used to dress like that! Finally I just got tired of not caring and slowly, over time I started to care more and more. Present day it’s pretty clear I care a lot about clothes! The first step was trading my sweat pants for jeans and my hoodies for sweaters. Fast forward to now and I won’t even leave the house without a full face of makeup (most days!). I guess one day I just woke up and realized that I wanted to care and ever since then my love for being creative and looking my best and even more importantly, feeling my best has turned into this passion of sharing my best self with my small little corner of the internet.
Are there any people who inspire your looks or outfits? (Bloggers, friends, family, celebs, etc.)
H: Definitely! I think everyone’s answer to this is yes, which is pretty cool! Instagram gets a bad reputation most of the time, but I love going on Instagram and scrolling through my feed. The inspiration is endless! Some of my favorite sources of inspiration are: Julia Engle @juliahengle , Joanna Gaines (my true girl crush) @joannagaines , Simone Piliero @simplybysimone , and Jacey Duprie @jaceyduprie are just a few that come to mind!
